What does Equality, Diversity and Inclusion mean to you?
This short course introduces key EDI concepts and explores why they matter in higher education and everyday life. You will learn about equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging, and consider how these ideas shape fair and respectful communities.
Through practical examples and real-world context, the course explains the difference between equality and equity, highlights relevant legislation such as the Equal Status Acts, and explores the importance of EDI in the learning environment.
You will be encouraged to reflect on your own perspectives and consider how you can contribute to a more inclusive and supportive community.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain key EDI concepts, including equality, diversity, inclusion and belonging, and distinguish between equality and equity
- Recognise the importance of EDI in higher education, including the role of legislation such as the Equal Status Acts
- Identify inclusive and non-inclusive practices and understand their impact on individuals and learning environments
- Reflect on your own perspectives and take steps to support inclusion, including acting as an ally and promoting respectful behaviours
