Overview
Valid, reliable, and authentic assessments are the cornerstone of quality-assured academic qualifications. Artificial intelligence, increased student numbers, diverse student needs, and changing expectations present significant challenges across the Further Education and Training and Higher Education landscape, particularly in relation to assessment practice.
Faced with these challenges, redesigning assessment can seem like a daunting task for educators. However, it also presents an opportunity to design assessments in meaningful ways that both support and assure learning.
This course is designed for educators seeking a deeper understanding of assessment theory and practical approaches to high-quality assessment design. It provides knowledge and strategies to support the effective design and redesign of assessment in contemporary educational contexts.

- Critically examine fundamental assessment principles and theories;
- Apply principles and strategies that support constructive alignment between assessment and learning outcomes, including in the generative AI era;
- Apply rubrics and feedback strategies to support student learning and academic integrity;
- Use effective and innovative assessment design and implementation strategies to engage students and uphold academic integrity.
