Online Course: Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) – October 2026
The National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education are delighted to announce that the fully online Open Course Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) – Open Courses will run from 12th October 2026 to 27th November 2026.
This free 6-week course is available to all staff currently working in Higher Education, subject to availability of places.
Course Schedule
The course will have just three webinars in total – Week 1, 3 and 5. The other weeks we will have drop-in sessions to manage queries only.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Describe Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) and their relevance to quality, equity and sustainability in Irish higher education.
- Evaluate appropriate OER and OEP approaches to support teaching, learning and assessment considering quality, accessibility, equity and legal/ethical dimensions.
- Identify the practical and ethical considerations of using OER and OEP for teaching and learning in the context of established and emerging technologies (e.g. GenAI).
- Appropriately integrate OER and OEP into teaching, learning and assessment in their own context in alignment with institutional, national, and international priorities.
- Contribute to a culture of critical openness to develop, share, and sustain open practices and to contribute to relevant policy development (e.g. OER policies).
Learning Activities
- Webinars: weeks 1, 3 & 5 (indicative time – 3 hours)
- Self-directed online content including independent investigation/research and reflective activities: Weeks 1- 6 (indicative time – 16 hours)
- Peer group activities (indicative time – 6 hours; 4 hours of meetings online plus follow up activities)
- Optional Facilitator training: Self-directed content, peer group activity (5 additional hours)
