Overview
This course follows the Introducing Education for Sustainability digital badge, providing two linked and stackable learning opportunities for Higher Education and Further Education staff.
The main course requires approximately 25 learner hours over six weeks. After completing it, participants can claim their digital badge and may progress to an optional two-week facilitator digital badge.
The course aims to create a dynamic community of practice across the Higher Education and Further Education sectors focused on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aligned with the work of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).
The course will:
- Raise awareness and understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals within educational contexts, catalysing action to embed them more holistically across the curriculum;
- Create a community of practice among tertiary education staff through the participant and facilitator digital badges;
- Explore the role of Higher Education and Further Education in meeting the targets associated with the Sustainable Development Goals;
- Examine how the Sustainable Development Goals can be embedded more holistically across the curriculum;
- Introduce programme and module-design approaches that embrace the Sustainable Development Goals and draw on international best practice;
- Share effective examples of teaching, learning, and assessment.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Critically explore the Sustainable Development Goals and explain how they can be applied across different disciplines;
- Critically evaluate Sustainable Development Goal teaching, learning, and assessment approaches within the contexts of different disciplines;
- Identify opportunities to use interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches when embedding the Sustainable Development Goals across the curriculum.
