Have you completed the Universal Design in Teaching and Learning or Beyond the Classroom Digital Badges? Looking to deepen your knowledge and measure the impact of your Universal Design practice?

Our next steps Digital Badge in Universal Design: Research and Impact will build on your existing knowledge of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework and support you to develop your skills and expertise to measure the impact of Universal Design on learner engagement and success.

The Badge is a free course for all those working in Higher and Further Education in the Republic of Ireland who have completed either the Universal Design in Teaching and Learning or Beyond the Classroom Digital Badges. It is a nationally recognised micro-credential.

You’ll Learn to

  • Confidently embed the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) at a deeper level within your own teaching, programme, or organisational context, aligning inclusive design with learning outcomes, assessment practices or your professional context.
  • Apply validated tools and frameworks to measure the impact of UDL implementation on learner engagement, satisfaction, and attainment in your context.
  • Critically reflect on and evaluate your own Universal Design practice, identifying successes, challenges, and next steps for sustainable inclusive design.
  • Lead and advocate for Universal Design within your organisation or discipline, sharing evidence-based examples of impact to build recognition and support for inclusive higher and further education environments.

On earning your open badge award for this course, you will have achieved further recognition in the following domains of the National Professional Development Framework for Staff who Teach:

  • Domain 1 Self: Focuses on personal reflection and evaluation of teaching practices.
  • Domain 2 Professional Identity, Values and Development: Involves understanding one’s role and engaging in continuous professional growth.
  • Domain 4 Professional Knowledge and Skills: Ensures the application of current, evidence-based teaching and assessment methods.

Course Developers

This open course will be developed by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in partnership with UCD Access and Lifelong Learning. The development framework will involve wide consultation and support from the Further Education and Training and Higher Education sector.
